From the diary of Megan:

When Friday rolled around, what I had to look forward to was somewhat like what Laura did, when the roles had been reversed. The only exception being that the entertainment was gonna be different. While I have stated that Laura and some of my friends were rather well off,and my Aunt wasn't,I wasn't exactly being truthful about that subject. When my parents died, there were three envelopes which were,as per the terms in the will they had,to be held until each of the children reached the age of eighteen. The envelopes, with my name, and the name of my brother and sister,on them, were the equal shares of the money which made up our inheritance. Because my brother and sister were in another country, living with a rich relative who could give them anything they needed,it wasn't a problem for them to wait.

I wouldn't have to worry about waiting until eighteen either. Unbeknownst to me,shortly after mom and dad were buried, and I was handed over to my aunt, she arranged a deal, with the original owner of the farm,to hold the deed to the land, until the oldest surviving child reached eighteen, then,to offer to enter into the exact same deal with said child,as had been agreed upon with my father. When that was done,Aunt Constance profited rather nicely from the sale of the farm. The only reason why she had been able to do such a thing was because my dad had written that the farm would go to her in their will.
