Right to the Top

On a pedestal high above my head
I reach and reach but can not quite grab
I have been told that it can not be had
But still I reach for what I must have

On a pedestal from which I stand
Two Ominous forces perch at my side
One controls the left, one controls the right
I would live without both if I could

On that pedestal so way up high
It glows and shimmers; it’s calling my name
“Come get me, take me for what I’m worth”
Left and right will have their say,

“On a pedestal high above your head,”
Left spoke to tease my inner greed,
“It’s yours for the taking and will be easy,
If you choose to follow me.”

“On a pedestal high above your head,
That’s your goal and do not forget it,”
Right was so very, very right
“Don’t follow the left, you can’t afford his price,”

I consider all that has been said
So I took a step towards the stairwell
The stairs that sat conveniently to my right
That leads to the pedestal above my head.
