Mock Trial

What we do at Mock Trial

What, you mean besides goofing off and driving our poor teacher crazy? We work. And work. And work. We either have to memorize a witness statement, or prepare questions for witnesses, an opening and/or closiing statement, or a pre-trial. You people probably don't know what a pretrial is. A pretrial is you argue whether or not evidence is going to be let in the case. Like the glove in the OJ Simpson trial. Trust me, it's a lot of research.

The different factions

When I talk about mock trial, there are two different things that I'm referring to. There's mock trial the club, which is an extra curricular activity, just like any sport. We're actually supposed to be getting letters. There's also mock trial the class, which is just like any class where we get grades and stuff. I was in the club for 4 years, and the class for 3 years (it was only available for 3 years!!)

What we really do

Well, the Constitutional federation or some people get together, make up a case, write it all out, and send it to the schools. The schools place people in parts (i.e, lawyer, witness, etc.) and basically prepare the case. It's acting, since the other school knows everything you do and the people who are witnesses have a witness statement to read from.

About our team

The past two years, we were Placer County Champions and were able to compete in the state competitions. I forget how well we did at state, I'll have to find that out. All I remember is the strip poker in the hotel rooms. ;-D
