hy is it that greed so often drives men to acts of evil? Why is it that at the center of so many grim tragedies is a coveted item, a trinket that consumed a man's soul until he was willing to commit any act to possess it? I would feel more pity for humanity's plight if it was emotion—that mad, demanding goddess—that drove men's vilest deeds, instead of mere things. That innocent folk should suffer for a simple material object, no matter how great its supposed boons, seems unthinkable...
