untitled by Sarah Jordan feedback please at fortto@yahoo.com 2/17/02 9 PM ish It was white, everything was white, from the walls to the curtains to the floor. The floor was like ice, so shinny that she could see her self in it. It seamed to disappear into the walls. The only contrast was the windows, which were black with the night sky on the other side. The piano in the center of the room seamed out of place. Its true size was hidden by the vastness of the never-ending room. But the piano stood out for it, and the man sitting in front of it were in stark contrast to the pure room. She felt out of place standing there in a red dress, as if she was screaming in a library, yet the only sounds in the room were that of her shoes echoing in the air. The man stood as she entered the room and motioned for her to join him on the piano bench. The grand piano was alone in the center of the room and as black as the night sky outside. The man, clothed in a tuxedo, sat down after her and began to play. As the notes rang from the keys the rest of the world disappeared. There were no worries, no other thoughts, no other people, no other places. Only the piano and the man existed to the woman. The words he sung were from his heart and spoke only to her. There was nothing else. When the song was over there was nothing, only the man, the woman and the piano. As silently as the night had begun it had ended, no words were spoken, no looks exchanged. The woman just stood and began to walk, filling the room with the same sounds as when she had entered. The sound of her shoes on the marble floor was the last he heard of her. Inspired by AND SO IT GOES by Billy Joel which is the song he sings… In every heart there is a room A sanctuary safe and strong To heal the wounds from lovers past Until a new one comes along I spoke to you in cautious tones You answered me with no pretense And still I feel I said too much My silence is my self defense And every time I've held a rose It seems I only felt the thorns And so it goes, and so it goes And so will you soon I suppose But if my silence made you leave Then that would be my worst mistake So I will share this room with you And you can have this heart to break And this is why my eyes are closed It's just as well for all I've seen And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows So I would choose to be with you That's if the choice were mine to make But you can make decisions too And you can have this heart to break And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows
