devious - halfway to oblivion
new (updated) website at www.doctorwho-devious.com

WHAT IS 'DEVIOUS'?

Devious is a film currently in production in Sussex. It is based on the BBC TV Series "Doctor Who" and is being made by a group of enthusiastic amateur movie-makers purely for the experience of making a film, and not for financial gain.

WHY 'HALFWAY'?

The Doctor is a Time Lord. Whereas most of us face death when our bodies wear out, a Time Lord is able to regenerate. The TV Series and TV Movie featured eight incarnations. The Doctor featured in "Devious" has been extracted against his will from his time-stream midway though the regeneration between his second and third 'selves'.

Luxulyan and Imborne struggle over the mysterious artefact

This Doctor finds himself in unfamilar surroundings with a jumble of memories. His past seems newly-created.

Stumbling to make sense of these strange memories, he is drawn ever closer to "The Test". One he must complete in a certain way - or face Oblivion.

Many people are watching The Test as it unfolds. Reputations depend on the results.

The Test has many players.

Not all play by the rules.

Not everyone has the same agenda....

it's behind you!!!
on the run

Even The Observers are at risk.

With the daleks as players, no-one is sure who to trust. With a fearsome time-weapon of mass-destruction nearing completion, only one person holds the key.

collision course? With ever-increasing time disturbances throughout the story the Doctor realises the events at the outset are being caused by the events at the finale, and only he is able to make sense of this maze. Seeing sees the sacrifices others have made for their cause, he starts to realise his own fate.

For the first time, a specially edited segment from Devious will be shown at the forthcoming "Dimensions On Tyne" Doctor Who Convention in Newcastle this November 2001

As amateurs we can only work on this project occasionally when time and money permit. Luckily the story concerns time, and the ageing effect it has on certain members of the cast is entirely in keeping with their real-life ageing due to the length of time this project has being going on!!! Seriously though, we are honoured to have some of our work shown to a large (critical) audience later in the year, and we hope to spring one or two surprises on the day!

Whether by luck or judgement, our work has already been noticed by the media! Our internal Tardis set and three of our own-built-daleks were borrowed by the BBC for their Comic Relief Doctor Who sketch in 1999. Four days spent at Pinewood Studios was great fun, and we have appeared on the Documentary video released by the BBC after the TV showing to 9 million viewers of the sketch. This video featured unfinished clips from Devious itself and is still available to buy (cheap plug!), with money going to charity.

We were also featured in the Bible of fandom, the Doctor Who Monthly magazine, along with our local press...

We were, as far as we are aware, the only amateur group to have the services of a certain Jon Pertwee, reprising his role of the Third Doctor one final time as the 'Halfway Doctor' meets his future intended incarnation. Sadly Jon died a year after filiming our scene, and so never saw the final edit. We were lucky enough to spend the day with him; collecting him from his magnificent house near London, and enjoying his company throughout a very entertaining and enlightening day.

All in all, Devious has been fun - well, most of the time. After all these years, we've decided to try to finish the filming this year. With over a year required for editing and CGI special effects we may well be finally finished before we all die! If the BBC can't come up with a 40th Anniversary programme, then maybe our own tribute to a much-loved series will point the way!

Please take time to look around the site. Any words of encouragement are warmly received - although you can email us at the doctorwho-devious.com email address you may well find it preferable to go to the new site and use the "contact us" form. For those of you who have asked for tips on dalek building or console and set production, we shall endeavour to answer your emails when we get a chance. At the moment, at last, we are set-building again! And guess what this time - the biggest cliche of all - corridors!!!

It's just deciding whether they should wobble or not - that's the real challenge!
