DEVIOUS - NEWS
9th MAY 1999 - SNEEK PREVIEW PHOTOS
After the video release of the Comic Relief sketch we will be
able to release loads of photos and video-grabs onto these pages. Please bear with us
while we wait for the video - which does seem to be rather entertaining, judging by what
we already know.....
I'm sure I won't be lynched for letting you see one or two photos in advance - although I
shan't be keen if I find them elsewhere on the internet!!
9th MAY 1999 - COMIC RELIEF COVERAGE IN SCI-FI
MAGAZINES
The latest issues of TV-Zone and DWM have covered the Comic
Relief project. Whereas TV-Zone showed loads of photos featuring the Devious props (the
silver daleks), the DWM managed to mention the Devious involvement saying about the
console being supplied by us, and that it wasn't meant to be funny! Hmm, let me say a
couple of things about that. On the day we did have problems with the console engine, in
that it was getting very tired, and so had to be run at the full voltage, which meant it
needed all the juice to work, and any lowering of the voltage to slow it down meant it
wouldn't run at all - so we were faced with the rather fast movement! With that kind of
speed, the centre rotor tended to rock, as it only rests on the central piston - normally
we have had no troubles with it.
* - The people at the BBC felt that it was fine - we did ask about it - and so we do feel
a little put out by the intended or otherwise criticism by some fans and the DWM. After
all we did spend a couple of weeks preparing the set and props (three daleks, the tardis
console, all of the tardis walls), and feel that we have helped the charity and the BBC.
Elsewhere on these pages you can find details of the walls construction - two new units
were built, and nine sections were transported to Pinewood in all.
* - Out of interest, the photo in TVZone of the aged master and a dalek was fun to do. Yes
- it was me in the dalek! - and yes, the dome does seem to be a bit too much to the right
- oh well - I'm sure someone will have something to say about tht too!
* - The Radio Times photo of Rowan and the dalek also featured a 'Devious' dalek.
16th March 1999 - DEVIOUS INVOLVEMENT IN COMIC
RELIEF is finally revealed! I have to say that the set
construction we've been talking about, and showing photos from, has been for the Comic
Relief Dr Who sketch! (Well, we couldn't say why, could we?). Our great friend Ian
Edmond revealed all on the newsgroup this week! Ian is the bearded chap who is
exterminated by four daleks during the later parts of our story (photos elsewhere).
The Tardis walls can now be backlit to great effect - we've tried it out ourselves of
course - and the console is now functioning fine (though did wobble a bit too much on t.v.
which was odd). The daleks are working again, and so we are well on the way to our next
filming anyway. The next set is being constructed very soon in the room you see below, and
once properly lit, the confines of the room will disappear - we are only building a
"cell-like" room anyway. MORE INFORMATION AND (exclusive) PHOTOGRAPHS
THROUGHOUT NEW SECTIONS IN THE DEVIOUS PAGES AS AND WHEN I GET TIME!!!
1st February 1999 - SET BUILDING RECOMMENCES....Finally, after enough
work was done to the roof of the new studio (shed, etc), I have been able to work on some
of the set. The main tardis walls are having some modifications; the backs of the roundels
are now being removed to allow for backlighting, and the main console is having all its
electrics checked out in the next week, and tested accordingly. A quick (poor quality)
video scan of the work-in-progress is shown below. More news as it happens!
11th January 1999 - FAME AT LAST! One of the pictures we sent to the
Doctor Who Monthly has been used to trail the forthcoming article on fan video
productions. We at Oblivion DTV / SAD Films are naturally very honoured and proud to have
been featured. Naturally we are on tentahooks for February 11th, as I'm sure all the other
fan video producers are...
