Future Generation Dance Academy
est. 2004
Based in Retreat, Cape Town
It's always a pleasure to introduce a new school to the fraternity of dancesport in the Western Cape. This school opened its doors to dancers, from children to seniors, in 2004, one of at least two new schools established in that year.
Trainer John Africa follows the footsteps of all those enthusiastic, motivated and driven dancers coming back into their communities to teach dance. It's good to see this, contrary to the beliefs that the sport is shrinking and just when one thinks there is a decline, we have a new school and new blood coming in. The school currently boasts 8 competitive couples ranging from juveniles to adults, and from bronze to novice. It also sports a quite large social dance community, comprising of thirty people. This surprised me in my non-dancing role of parent and supporter extraordinaire, since my last floor foray could easily have been in the year nought, being assured by John that "nee, daai social dancers is glad nie skaam om die vloer te vat nie!"
Future Generation Dance Academy is based in Retreat and training takes place at the Mary Attlee Centre in Retreat. Three night a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the social dancers strutt their stuff and Wednesdays [although they come on the other nights too] for the competitive dancers.
Chairperson Mario Wyngaardt is equally enthusiastic about the school and the work they do in the area of Retreat and I can tell you all that nothing affords one greater pleasure to see one's son, daughter, grandchild participate.
So, to the Future Generation Dance Academy, welcome to the exciting world of dancing. May the school achieve great growth in the years to come!
