Chapter three

Although she had anticipated such a reaction from Tadeuzs, Cyane seemed, for no more than a second perhaps, surprised. She was still a very young person and her negociation skills, she could see it right now, still had to be worked on.

Tadeuzs was looking at her, his fists on his hips, with a look of pride in his eyes. He had the Amazon queen's number. She was caught in his house and the next day his troops would extract revenge on the Amazon nation.

"Well, I guess there's only one thing left to do then...", Tadeuzs said in a tone that was both arrogant and, Cyane could hear this tone much more clearly, in a tone that showed he already had something planned.

Cyane backed up a few steps, slowly, as if she was still unsure where the men would be coming from to get her. She glanced quickly around her. Tadeusz put two fingers in his mouth and whistled a signal to his men. Rapidly, three of them came in the house and went after Cyane who went out the window when they got in. To her amazement, the blonde woman felt something around her throat, choking her. She fell hardly on her back before she was lifted off her feet and into the air. There, she was left hanging in the side of Tadeuzs' house.

Tadeuzs came out in front of her. The mountain of a man let out a sadistic, maniacal laugh as he looked the Amazon queen in the eyes. "You know, Blondie, I never thought you'd fall for that one," he said. He looked on top of the house and congratulated one of his men. "Metaj, you were fabulous with that rope!"

Metaj jumped off the roof and in front of a choking Cyane and beside Tadeuzs. The young man had long brown hair and broad shoulders. He had a look of satisfaction and sheer accomplishment in his eyes. Cyane looked at him with a determined look in her eyes but she could no longer resist the lack of blood getting to her brain and things started getting darker and darker and darker...

She regained consciousness a few seconds later.

"Why the hell did you do that for?," Tadeuzs asked.

"She was about to pass out, a few minutes, no more than one or two, and she would have died, Metaj answered.

"Yes. Now, Why the hell did you do that for?!!," Tadeuzs yelled at the younger man.

"Because she's no good to us dead. Don't you think the Amazons will feel even worse if they see we've captured her? Hell, we can kill her in front of them. THAT will discourage them."

"You know what? That's actually not a bad idea. In fact, it's a great idea. Metaj, guard her for the night. Tomorrow, in the middle of battle, you'll bring her. I'll love to see that look of discouragement in their little eyes and then BOOM! No more Amazons!" Tadeuzs laughed maniacally.

Metaj got Cyane on his shoulders and walked to the village's prison. The prison was empty. No surprised there. Before the attack, Ot had always been a quiet little town. He walked in a jail cell but Cyane, who until then had acted like she was still passed out, closed the door behind the both of them and kneed him in the face. He dropped her and she proceeded to throw a barrage of punches and open-handed strikes. The young man fell on his back.

"Oh you're gonna pay for the hanging trick, boy.", Cyane told the young man. She picked him up and threw him in the bars, pressing his head on the metal with her forearms.

"Wait!," Metaj said. "Look, I know you guys didn't raid our village. The Amazons would never do that. I heard what you told Tadeuzs earlier and I believe you. Your voice was not the voice of a liar. You were also right about the Sarmatians. I know it was them."

"How could you know that?," Cyane asked not releasing her grip one bit.

"I moved here when I was fifteen. My family moved here ten years ago after our village had been raided by Sarmatians. When we got raided here recently, I recognized one of the sarmatians who had raided my village ten years ago," Metaj told Cyane.

"Why should I trust you? You could tell me anything right now hoping I would let you go. You hung me after all."

"I had to. It was the only way I could get you out of here safely. Otherwise, we'd have had to fight the entire village by ourselves."

Cyane released slowly the death grip she had on his neck. "You're right. So what's your plan? How do we get out of here?"

"Tonight, you will get out slowly by a window. Be careful for the guards, they're everywhere," the young man told the Amazon queen. He looked at her neck and throat. "I should get you something for that. The skin is all burned because of the rope."

Back in the Amazon village, a very worried Lodka was pacing in front of the fire. "Why is it taking so long? She should have been back a couple of hours ago already."

"Now calm down, Lodka. I'm sure there's a rational explanation for this. Perhaps Cyane stayed so she could get more information. Maybe she's talking with Tadeuzs. Maybe she put some sense into him and the villagers of Ot. I wouldn't worry if I was you," Bhala told Lodka, trying to calm her down. "You know you always worry. Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not. Right now, I'm sure it's not."

"Maybe you're right."

"Now go prepare Davor in case she needs him when she gets back." Lodka nodded and went to Cyane's horse. She groomed him and fed him. She made sure his shoes were alright.

"I hope everything will be fine.", Lodka whispered to herself.
